In a nutshell: I loved it. It was good. It was not great.
My three favorite superhero films are still:
As a Green Lantern fanboy, this was an amazing movie to watch. This was the comic come to life. There were moments that my eyes almost bugged out of my head when I saw them, or my hand went up to my mouth to stifle a gasp, much like some more iconic poses that appeared in the Spider-Man films.
Every step of the way it felt as if the filmmakers were thinking ‘now what would Chris like to see next?’ It felt like that kind of movie, to me.
It was very faithful to the source material, moreso than many other recent superhero films. And that’s it’s problem.
As much as I loved seeing what I saw, I wanted to see more. More Corps members. More ring-slinging. More… action? Don’t get me wrong, there was action, but just not enough. They were trying to tell an origin story, which they succeeded in doing, but at the expense of other story elements with the other characters.
Most Green Lantern fans will love the film, maybe more, maybe less, than I did. The average movie goer will be entertained. It really isn’t as confusing as some have made it out to be.
And to be honest, this movie I want to see again, unlike Thor and X-Men First Class. It’s not because I don’t like those other two films, I’ve just always been a DC fan, and I enjoyed this one more than the other two. Who knows, maybe Captain America will change my mind about this summer’s superhero films.
I’m actually tempted to see in in 3D, since most of the 3D was not ‘jump off the screen’ like effects, more like the stars and the constructs were in 3D.
In a word this film is: Recommended.
It couldn’t be this easy:

Could it? :p
Ready to go!

But first…

Is it June 17th, 2011 yet?
