Midnight release of a new comic book? Sure, why not…
So DC has decided to ‘reboot’ their entire line of comic books, with 52 new #1 issues. The first of those was released today, at midnight. I decided to make a trip to Whatever…, the only store that I could find that was participating in the midnight release.
For a couple of hours before that, I got in the mood by playing DC Universe online, and made a few changes to Hyperman’s costume:

Very DCnU Superman-esque
Around 11pm I hopped in the car and drove out to the comic store. I arrived quite early, so I sat in my car for about 1/2 an hour, without my Kindle or my tablet (d’oh!), playing solitaire on my phone.
At 10 to midnight, I got out and walked to the storefront, where 6 other people were standing. I felt that was appropriate, seven people waiting to pick up Justice League of America #1, since the JLA is best known for it’s original seven members. And here I was in my Superman hoodie, and another guy with a Batman logo on his hoodie. And one girl. Heh.
They let us in a few minutes later, and we all mulled about for a few more minutes, with more folks entering the store, until midnight, when they could actually sell the new comics.
I was lucky enough to get my hands on one of the only three copies of the JLA combo-pack, which includes a code for a digital copy of this comic.
At the stroke of midnight, they started to ring us up, first the Batman guy, then me, since we were the only two near the register. The two comics were 30% off when bought together, and they even threw in a complete set of Flashpoint buttons.
I drove home and have now read both books. Quick reviews:
Flashpoint #5: Good ending to the story, in my humble opinion.
JLA #1: I’m a Geoff Johns/Jim Lee fanboy, so of course I’m gonna say it’s great. The dialogue is awesome, and the art is top notch.

At SDCC, I thought the one on the left had the wrong color boots…
I think I better go to bed now, since I have to get up in a few hours and go to work.

Happy Birthday to me and (in two days) my life long friend, Glenn
