Apparently Microsoft stopped production of the glossy finish XBox 360 S consoles back in August, which means mine will have a matte finish, much like the older models.

It won’t match the finish on the Kinect, though.


Postmortem

Tuesday night I played MW3 for about 30-45 minutes, and then switched over to watch TV.

I had meant to switch back and continue playing.

Instead, I turned in early, not realizing that I had left the XBox 360 on.

I found the screen ‘frozen’ Wednesday morning (about 12 hours later), and while I was able to power cycle the console, it froze a couple of times on start up.

I was eventually able to start up a game, but it again froze during play that morning.

I let it sit and cool all day Wednesday, but when I got home and turned it on, it froze on the opening XBox animation for the last time.  Nothing but Red Ring of Death ever since.

The Beast is dead.

The Beast II is scheduled to be delivered on Friday.

The XBox 360 Red Ring of Death

To be honest, I was thinking of getting one of the new models and trading in this one.  Instead, I’m just gonna get a new one.

I guess I have no use for my HD-DVD drive anymore, either, unless I get it to work with my PC.

Rest in peace, XBox 360.  You served me well for 4 years, 4 months and 3 days.

Side note: is Fable III any good?  It comes with the XBox 360 holiday bundle that Amazon.com offers.


The Beautiful Game

For the first time… ever… I opted to not get this year’s Madden Football video game.

Instead, I got the other football game:


FIFA 2012 for XBox 360

And, as I always do with sports games, I created myself on my favorite team, this time as a midfielder on Tottenham Hotspur:

And I decided to go with one name, like most of the great soccer players in the world:

I played a match between Spurs and Everton.

What the hell was I thinking?

While I did have more scoring chances and shots than my opponent, Tim Howard was more than up to the task, and Spurs lost the match 2-0.

I’m beginning to get a better feeling of how to play this, more than I did with the 2010 World Cup Edition.
