{"id":2808,"date":"2018-03-08T09:00:59","date_gmt":"2018-03-08T17:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/saguisag.com\/blogv4\/?p=2808"},"modified":"2018-03-09T10:32:35","modified_gmt":"2018-03-09T18:32:35","slug":"flashback-1978","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/saguisag.com\/blogv4\/flashback-1978\/","title":{"rendered":"Flashback: 1978"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>7 (ABC) STAR WARS &#8211; Drama<br \/>\nR2 is re-captured by the Jawas.\u00a0 Luke and the gang plot to rescue him.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>When I was 11 years old, I imagined that instead of another <em>Star Wars<\/em> movie, we would get a <em>Star Wars<\/em> television series.\u00a0 This was around the time that we had had both a <em>Logan&#8217;s Run<\/em> TV series, and a <em>Planet of the Apes<\/em> TV series, so it made perfect sense, to me.\u00a0 I even came up with possible TV Guide listings, like the one above.<\/p>\n<p>I was more than excited when we got a second movie, a couple of years later.<\/p>\n<p>More time passed, and we got more movies, and finally some animated TV series.<\/p>\n<p>But I had always hoped that a live-action series would happen one day.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.starwars.com\/news\/jon-favreau-to-executive-produce-write-live-action-star-wars-series\">And now it looks like it&#8217;s happening<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I know a lot of folks, including some friends, and of course the toxic fanbois, are decrying this, claiming that Disney is milking the franchise.<\/p>\n<p>Fair enough.<\/p>\n<p>But when George Lucas stated that he was leaving Lucasfilm in the best hands when he sold his company to Disney, what the hell did you think was going to happen?\u00a0 More periods of no movies?\u00a0 More books and comics that not everyone reads?<\/p>\n<p>Movies and television are the most accessible form of entertainment.\u00a0 Lucas himself was too busy running the rest of his company to focus on <em>Star Wars<\/em> or even Indiana Jones, for that matter.\u00a0 So why not hand the reins over to a company that could commit the time and resources to create new <em>Star Wars<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p>And for those who claim that <em>Star Wars<\/em> isn&#8217;t special anymore because of this &#8216;over exposure&#8217;: it was never special to you in the first place.\u00a0 Not in the way you think it should be.<\/p>\n<p>All those years of nothing but the Expanded Universe, which was consumed by the most diehard fans, but not to the average MOVIEGOER, made for great discussion at conventions or the comic shop or online, but not over casual parties or dinner gatherings.\u00a0 And if you did find folks talking about <em>Star Wars<\/em> outside of &#8216;typical&#8217; venues, they were sometimes in hushed tones, and possibly mocked by others present.<\/p>\n<p>Disney has made <em>Star Wars<\/em> accessible to everyone.\u00a0 The jocks who would tease me back in the day are now sporting First Order t-shirts.\u00a0 The girls who would point and giggle at me and my friends when we were younger are sporting BB-8 purses and Rebel infinity scarves.<\/p>\n<p>This is progress.\u00a0 Progress that I never thought I would see.<\/p>\n<p>This is my own &#8216;It Gets Better&#8217; moment.<\/p>\n<p>So when the announcement came this morning that Jon Freaking Favreau was signed on to produce and write a live-action <em>Star Wars<\/em> TV series, I cried.<\/p>\n<p>Cried because another dream from childhood was coming alive.\u00a0 And this one is a doozy.<\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t make anyone change how they feel about anything, particularly <em>Star Wars<\/em> in this case, but I can sure as hell bask in the joy of this.<\/p>\n<p><em>STAR WARS<\/em> TV IS HAPPENING<\/p>\n<p>I had to double check to see if I typed that right.\u00a0 Damn these tears in my eyes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>7 (ABC) STAR WARS &#8211; Drama R2 is re-captured by the Jawas.\u00a0 Luke and the gang plot to rescue him.
