I’ve played Marvel Champions maybe a half-dozen times, mostly with Spider-Man and Captain America.<\/p>\n

I’ve played solo, and I have yet to play this with my gaming group.<\/span><\/p>\n

I bought too many expansions which have yet to be played, so I stopped buying every expansion as it came out.\u00a0 That was the completionist in me.<\/p>\n

When this game came out, another Marvel game came out as well, one that I was interested in but didn’t want to get into, because miniatures were involved, which is bad for my completionist tendencies.<\/p>\n

It was on sale during Amazon Prime Days, so I decided to do some research online about it.<\/p>\n

According to folks online, this is one of the best starter sets to come out for a miniatures game.\u00a0 There’s a lot of play value with the 10 miniatures and printed scenarios in the rulebook and online.<\/p>\n

It’s a two player game, though I’m getting a new tool for skirmish game solo play.\u00a0 More on that later.<\/p>\n

And I do enjoy painting miniatures .<\/p>\n

After hemming and hawing for a day I decided to take the plunge and get the base set, with the self imposed caveat to not buy everything<\/strong> out there for it, having learned a lesson from Marvel Champions, and other games as well (Battlestar Galactica Starship Battles, for example).<\/p>\n

I did order one other item for the game.<\/p>\n

Because HULK SMASH, that’s why.<\/p>\n

Seeing how little I played with the expansions for Marvel Champions, I don’t think I’ll even get the core Avengers who are not included with the base set.\u00a0 Aside from the Black Widow\/Hawkeye pack, I’m not that interested in the expansions, until I play out the scenarios in the box.\u00a0 And that might take a while, knowing me and my playing style\/schedule.<\/p>\n

But I’ll probably get enjoyment from painting up the Hulk, Spider-Man, Captain America and the others in the box, so there’s that.<\/p>\n

As for the two player aspect, I found a card-based opponent AI on Wargames Vault called Hostile Tactical AI<\/a>, which has some good reviews on BoardGameGeek and Wargames Vault.\u00a0 If it works well I’ll try it with Necromunda and Memoir ’44.<\/p>\n
