{"id":2035,"date":"2019-08-03T17:42:06","date_gmt":"2019-08-04T01:42:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/saguisag.com\/d6s\/?p=2035"},"modified":"2019-08-03T17:42:06","modified_gmt":"2019-08-04T01:42:06","slug":"the-beautiful-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/saguisag.com\/d6s\/2019\/08\/the-beautiful-game\/","title":{"rendered":"The Beautiful Game"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since I focus so much on baseball and racing games, other sports sims that I&#8217;ve picked up over the years have gone ignored.<\/p>\n<p>Today I decided to try a soccer sim, <a href=\"https:\/\/boardgamegeek.com\/boardgame\/96728\/beautiful-game\">The Beautiful Game<\/a> by Lambourne Games.<\/p>\n<p>It truly is a beautiful game.<\/p>\n<p>You read of a couple of ratings to form a &#8216;match deck&#8217; of playing cards, then go through them using a pair of d, with certain rolls of one die representing a scoring chance, and then you go to another pile of cards to determine what&#8217;s happening on the pitch, which is resolved with another roll of 2d6.<\/p>\n<p>A basic (layer 1) game with those rules resulted in a 1-1 draw between Tottenham Hotspur vs. Arsenal (2012-13).\u00a0 The game took maybe 5 minutes or so.<\/p>\n<p>I then tried a layer 2 game, which includes a &#8216;timing&#8217; deck that specifies when a goal occurs, and a d10+d6 method to determine the goal scorer.<\/p>\n<p>The second match unfolded as follows:<\/p>\n<p>6&#8242; TOT &#8211; Poldolski &#8211; own goal<br \/>\n15&#8242; TOT &#8211; Bale<br \/>\n19&#8242; ARS &#8211; Gervinho<br \/>\nHT: TOT 2-1 ARS<br \/>\n53&#8242; TOT &#8211; Dembele<br \/>\n66&#8242; ARS &#8211; Poldolski<br \/>\n90+4&#8242; ARS &#8211; Rosicky<br \/>\n90+9&#8242; TOT &#8211; Bale<br \/>\nFT: TOT 4-3 ARS<\/p>\n<p>This took less than 10 minutes to roll.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a site with lots of free seasons, so I downloaded a couple of American soccer leagues from 1967, along with the 1975 NASL season with the New York Cosmos and a rookie named Pele.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll see if I ever get around to starting a soccer replay.<\/p>\n<p>Stay tuned!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since I focus so much on baseball and racing games, other sports sims that I&#8217;ve picked up over the years have gone ignored.
