A Long Time Ago

Maybe 45+ years ago…

A couple of years before I picked up the Star Fleet Battles Designer’s Edition boxed set, and a couple of years after I had the Star Fleet Battle Manual rules down, I picked up a very odd looking miniature, followed by a couple more from what I assumed was the same line.

Roach?

Locust, picked up a pair of them for pretty obvious reasons.

Cool as I thought they were to my pre-teen mind, I never found the rule set to go with them.

I painted them up but for the most part just used them as toys instead of game pieces, flying them around the dining room or coffee table.

Flash forward to the mid 2000s, and Monday Knight Productions picks up the miniature line and releases a ruleset to go along with them.

Galactic Knights, which I believe is what the original miniature line was called.

20 years later, I finally decide to picking up the rules and some ships to go with them.

The deluxe game comes with two starter fleets, consisting of 2 destroyer-class ships and a destroyer leader-class ship.

Terran Swiftsure-class destroyers and a Samurai-class destroyer leader.

Avarian Hawk-class destroyers and a Screech Owl-class destroyer leader.

The deluxe set also comes with a 3′ x 3′ playmat, which I was planning to pick up for Starmada, so it’s a two-in-one win-win for me.

As I browsed the site, I remembered the ships I had from childhood, so I decided to get those, plus the additional rules for this new fleet.

So in addition to the two ships I was familiar with, I picked up a pair of Entomolian destroyers and a destroyer leader.

Entomolian Wasp-class destroyers and Mandible-class destroyer leader.

My humble Entomolian fleet.  The Locust is actually a transport ship, while the Roach is a battlecruiser-class ship.

The ships appear to sit on a flat surface fine, but they came with stands, even though the miniatures do not have a hole to mount them with.

Starter set stands (plastic)

Entomolian ship stands, including a heavier metal stand for the battlecruiser.

Depending on how this game plays I may get a couple more ships for each fleet.
