Too Many Shinies

I’m an idiot.

But a lot of you already knew that.

The latest proof:

I ordered and received the X-Men Expansion book for the Marvel Multiverse Role Playing Game a few months ago, but like most expansions I’ve gotten lately, I may have taken a quick look at it, barely skimming it.

And it wasn’t until today that it dawned on me to look up Alpha Flight,

Lo and behold, the team that went after Wolverine in X-Men #120 is in there (along with Puck but no Marrina), along with full stats.

UNCANNY X-MEN (1963) #121 page by Chris Claremont and John Byrne

Talisman and Nemesis are also listed in the character section, alongside The Master of the World.

I just find it odd that Marrina is mentioned in the description of the various teams in AF’s history, but no character/stat sheet in this book.

At some point I’ll need to retrieve those Alpha Flight miniatures that I 3D printed that are currently in storage.

Don’t touch that dial!

Shallow Rabbit Hole

There’s just too many miniatures out there.  Period.

Though I did buy a few.  As I do.  But believe me when I say that after my first expansion choice, it took me a couple of days to decide to actually get others, and then decide which ones.

You can play with the core set as is, I just wanted a little variety.  Plus, painting miniatures is fun.

Marvel Burnout and Rebirth

I’ve played Marvel Champions maybe a half-dozen times, mostly with Spider-Man and Captain America.

I’ve played solo, and I have yet to play this with my gaming group.

I bought too many expansions which have yet to be played, so I stopped buying every expansion as it came out.  That was the completionist in me.

When this game came out, another Marvel game came out as well, one that I was interested in but didn’t want to get into, because miniatures were involved, which is bad for my completionist tendencies.

Setup and take down

The biggest issue I have with games like Imperial Assault is the setup and take down time.

Though I think I simplified the issue with IA by separating the different tile sets.  I may end up placing no more than 2 expansion tile sets in a single box.

Of course,  I’m only currently playing through the solo player app on my iPad, so for now it’s only been requiring map tiles from the core set.

But I messed up something in my campaign yesterday, and decided to abandon the campaign and will start over at a later time.

Conversely, setup and take down of Terraforming Mars is a snap, especially for solo play.

It was the first time I got to try this game solo, and I followed a set up video online, but I didn’t need to.  I’d played once before, and solo setup is similar to regular setup.

It’s the game play that’s rough.  I didn’t come close to terraforming in the allotted time.  Though I did manage to smash an ice asteroid and the moon Phobos into the planet’s surface.

Since I finally got the expansions for Marvel Champions that I was waiting for, I’ll probably go back to that game fairly soon.
