There’s been an awakening…

… have you felt it?

Between watching YouTube videos on Solo RPGs and reviews on the systems that I own, I feel more ready than ever to finally get things started with…

How I let this one sit on my shelf for this long without taking a good look at it is a crime.

It really feels like everything I want to get out of a Fantasy Solo RPG experience, and it’s all coming out of one box.

No Mythic GM Emulator needed, though i may use that later, either for this of if I decide to go back to D&D 5E.

I made a DUCK KNIGHT for crying out loud!  I’ll probably try him out in combat when I get home from work.

Online Resources

All this time I never used one of the biggest resources for learning that was right under my nose.

YouTube.

Case in point: for years I never could wrap my head around Modiphius’ 2D20 system, even though I’d read it and kinda maybe got the gist of it.

Star Trek Adventures 2nd Edition appears to have stripped things down a bit, from what I’ve heard from YOUTUBE videos, and right here is a video that I found that explains the basics of the system better than any other resource I’ve found online.

He also goes into character creation:

While this is great for when/if I finally delve into this system, maaaaaaybe with my gaming group (hint hint nudge nudge), I’ve decided to start looking up some videos explaining how to play the Captain’s Log Solo version of STA.

Wish me luck with this.

Core Space

This has to be the most I’ve gotten hooked on a new game in quite a while.

In the two weeks since picking up the core box set, I’ve read the rules, set up the map, and painted almost all of the miniatures that came with my initial order.

I even played the example scenario and found the game pretty easy to pick up and play.

I managed to paint the extra crew set that I want to use in my campaign playthrough, they should be ready to go sometime this week.

I do wonder how this got past my radar on Kickstarter all those years ago, though.  The Kickstarter ran in 2017, the game shipped in 2019.

To-Do List

A bunch of games came in recently, and I really want to play all of them as soon as possible.

But that’s not happening.

Links for the current bunch of games that came in:

Right now I’m focusing my time and energy on Core Space, reading the rule book, priming and painting the miniatures, and watching YouTube tutorials on how to play.

We’ll see if I can get a scenario in this weekend.

Go Ahead Punk!

Talk about timing:

I recently rewatched the original Dirty Harry a week or so ago, and then this arrived at the office.

It’s for a game called Go Ahead Punk! and is of course based on the Dirty Harry movie.

The game itself hasn’t arrived yet, but I’m looking forward to playing it on this cool play mat.

Senjutsu

While I’ve always been interested in Feudal Japan, I blame the recent Shogun series on FX for me looking for and finding this game.

This is a very quick play (20-30 minutes) deck building skirmish game representing duels between 2-4 rival samurai.

It comes with miniatures, cards, terrain, and map boards to play out the duels.

There’s also a solo campaign along with AI opponents for solo play.

This was a Kickstarter that I missed, and the base game is all that I was able to find on Amazon.com.

I did manage to find a couple of expansions that looked interesting, with other samurai/characters to play with.

And I’ve found a couple of 3D printer files for tokens and terrain for this game.

I hope to get to the solo campaign sooner rather than later.

Moving Right Along

At glacial pace, we’re getting to the first scene/encounter in the currently untitled adventure featuring Raised By Minotaurs.

I pulled out a deck of Quest Deck cards from Kickstarter, a pack called ‘Notice Board’.  Since I had previously stated that RBM came into town to look for a job as a monster hunter, I figured he found a notice board to find work.

I drew 4 cards and picked one that I figured this character would choose.

So we’ll get to this encounter soon.

As an aside, I ended up describing this character as 6’8″, 250 lbs.

Looking around the web for a similar real person, I found that I had made a more muscular Harrison Barnes (also 6’8″) of the Sacramento Kings.
