Covert Ops Background

System: Covert Ops

This one is still early in the planning stages.  Either an agent or team of agents, rookies or experienced, doing spy stuff.

I’m still not sure if I’m placing the setting in the 1960s, the 1980s, or present day.

And this will probably be the first time that I role play Jake Banner, a character I’ve had rattling around my brain since I was in high school.

First Character

I decided to copy this sheet here, since this is the more appropriate place.

I’m still reading through the rule book for this system, so hopefully I get this (or one of the other solo games) underway fairly soon.

I did roll a starting adventure for this character a month or so ago, but decided to start fresh once the rule book has been read and understood.

Besides, from that initial adventure description, it sounded too much like the beginning of Star Trek Voyager.

Going Forward

While the focus of this blog will be solo role playing games, anything else I deem different from Tabletop Wargaming will end up here as well.

This may include general role playing with a group, any 3D printing involving RPGs, or anything else that doesn’t fit the traditional ‘tabletop wargaming’ definition.

Don’t touch that Dial!*

* yeah, this tagline may change as well.

Systems

The systems that I initially plan to play with some soloing RPG tools are:

  • Star Trek Adventures Captain’s Log for sci-fi.
  • Covert Ops for modern day, though that may shift to the 80s.
  • Dragonbane for fantasy, because I can play an anthropomorphic duck (mallard).

Don’t touch that Dial!

Star Trek: Excalibur

After watching some videos today on both Star Trek Adventures and the Captain’s Log Solo RPG, I rerolled my Enterprise-era captain to put him more in line with my ideal background (no randomness) and this is what my result was:

I decided to forgo my usual science background and put him through the Operations track at Starfleet Academy.

I rolled my first mission as well, and came up with a Deep Space assignment which resulted from being struck by an object that sends the ship off course.

Whoops.

“Ship’s Log, July 29, 2154.  While attempting to explore a spatial rift, the Excalibur was struck by a wayward piece of stellar matter from the nearby star, knocking us into the rift itself.  We have sustained minor damage and many casualties, none fatal, but the crew will be operating at less than peak efficiency until our shipmates heal.  Meanwhile, we have detected an uninhabited world nearby and upon further scanning there appears to be a graveyard for numerous shipwrecks scattered on the surface.”

This doesn’t bode well, does it?

STA: Captain’s Log Solo RPG

I can’t tell you how excited I am about this product.

Star Trek Adventures: Captain’s Log Solo Roleplaying Game

I miss playing the old FASA Trek system, especially with my gaming group.  Playing games on Saturday nights until well past midnight.  Star Trek RPG was a cornerstone of those game nights.

But the reality is that:

  • we don’t have that kind of free time anymore
  • solo play is the way I’ve been playing a lot of games

I was planning to start a new campaign in Five Parsecs From Home, but I think this is going to take up some of my table top time at home.

Since this game covers any and all eras of Star Trek, I’m going to pull a multiverse trick and recreate my FASA Trek ‘ego’ character, Commodore Christopher Saguisag, into all (not you, Discovery/Picard) of those eras.

First up will be Enterprise-era, since I’m in the middle of putting together a uniform jacket from that series.

New Game Table

Behold!

This was 3D printed and can be expanded if the need arises.

It’s currently 24″ x 32″, which is big enough for most of the games I currently play, sports and otherwise.

And in a IDGAF thought, any and all tabletop skirmish games will be played on this surface, regardless of the suggested playing area.  Because 36″ x 36″ is a bit big, for me.
