Unique

I don’t know if anything I’ve ever played in a role-playing game has been unique.

I suppose every character and scenario I’ve ever created or played was unique in the sense that every character is as different as you make them from another, and every scenario is different by nature of the player’s actions.

So that’s today’s answer.

First

RPGADay2019

The first character I ever created was a fighter-type in Steve Jackson’s The Fantasy Trip.

His name: Chris the Conqueror.

Alliteration was a thing for me, even though I didn’t know it then, due to reading comic books.

I think I ended up naming the other two members of our party, Nelson the Intelligent and Anders the Swede.  Real original, huh?

We spent a good part of freshman year of high school playing Melee/Wizard and all of the adventure modules that we could get our hands on.

We fudged the rules a bit as we played, giving ourselves magic weapons as we progressed in skills.  Nelson ended up with Excalibur (yes, THAT Excalibur) and I had some enchanted sword that I named Phoenix.  Anders stuck with a two-handed battle axe throughout our time in that world.

By the time we finished playing, we had another set of characters go through one of the last adventures, Orb Quest.  I think we may have had a larger party (4 or 5?) and to this day I think Nelson’s character is still stuck on the second to last floor in that tower, frozen for all eternity.

And while it seemed like it was a long time, I don’t believe we played more than a year with that system.  We abandoned it before sophomore year, when something more interesting came along, at least for me, personally.

Star Fleet Battles.

Echo Auto

2 days in, and I find that it’s a bit distracting during a home-work commute of less than 20 minutes.

It is nice that while plugged in I can have it play local radio stations from I Heart Radio.  But it pauses when doing navigation, with vocal cues for turns and exits.

I can see it being more useful during longer trips.

We’ll see.

Facebook Kinda Down?

Images are wonky, that’s for sure.

Meanwhile, here’s something I picked up from Target, when I was looking for new sheets for the mattress being delivered today.

SPACE LEGO

Spider-Man: Far From Home

There was a moment during the film that I felt like I was in a Spider-Man/Mysterio comic book by Lee and Ditko.  It felt THAT right.

And there was another moment that I almost stood up and screamed, “I KNEW IT!”

It was about as good as Homecoming, maybe a little better at some points.

Tom Holland continues to amaze (heh) me in his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.  This guy truly plays the part as I remember him when I was reading the comics growing up.

And it does wrap up the Infinity Saga quite well.

Two thumbs up.  Recommended.

Go see it!

Loyalties

This 24+ hour period has seen the most of my favorite players leaving for other teams.

Kevin Durant to Brooklyn.

Joe Pavelski to Dallas.

Andre Igoudala to Memphis.

I’m expecting Madison Bumgarner to be traded any day now.

Binge Watch: Designated Survivor, Season 3

Dear Dad,

I finished up Designated Survivor last night, staying up way past my bedtime.

Overall, I think you would have liked it, they didn’t linger on plots for 4-5 episodes like previous seasons would do.  This was probably because it was a 10-episode season, instead of 20+ episodes where they need to add filler episodes, like they did in 24.

There were some plots that were difficult to watch, like Emily and her mother’s cancer.  The resolution of that was extremely painful.

And they killed off one of your favorite characters, which was a bummer, but I kinda knew it was gonna happen before it did.

But the overall final result was pretty much as expected, except for Aaron’s story, that actually surprised me how the resolved that.

As for season 4, no word yet from Netflix, though to be honest, I kinda feel that this would be a good point to stop the series, but then again I said that after season 2 ended.

I do wish you were watching with me.  Miss you a lot.

Cancellations

This morning I cancelled my preorders for Jedi: Fallen Order, Cyberpunk 2077, and the Sega Genesis retro console.

I just can’t play these games anymore.

The ones I currently own have gotten so little playtime that they may as well be shrink wrapped.

Granted, my arthritis has been less painful in the last couple of days, but it’s still there.

Getting older sucks.

Designated Survivor, Season 3

Dear Dad,

I just watched the first episode of Designated Survivor, Season 3.

I think you would have liked it.  I wish you were here to watch it with me.

I miss you and love you.
