Check Six

The Corsair Leader campaign released the images of the personalized pilot cards for the game, including mine.

Behold!

Since I was about 11 or 12, when I first built that 1/72 scale model F4F Wildcat ($2 from Woolworth’s in downtown San Francisco), I always wanted to pilot one of these.

This is about as close as I’ll get, I suppose, and my cardboard doppelganger will be fighting the good fight against the Imperial Japanese Navy in World War II.

I can’t wait.

Pilot

At the last moment I changed my mind again and decided to pledge for my name on an aircraft card in Corsair Leader.

I posted a question to Facebook, asking what would be a good callsign for a World War II F4F Wildcat pilot.

There were a few good suggestions, but I wanted to have some connection to my own Filipino heritage, so when someone suggested ‘Bailout’, I came up with… ‘Balut’.

Chris ‘Balut’ Saguisag, F4F Wildcat pilot, reporting for duty!

Funded

So happy that this game got funded, and that the backers were able to knock down some great, nay, awesome stretch goals at the end, including this one:

I was one of a bunch of folks who requested this particular stretch goal.

The last stretch goal (for $105K) gave us P-40 Warhawks to use in the game.  Which of course remind me of John Belushi in the movie 1941.

Looking forward to receiving this game in July.

“Sayonara, sucker!”

A week?

I must have been busy.  Or lazy.  Both?

I spent part of my weekend cleaning stuff around the house, like the upstairs bathroom, among other locations.

I’ve been hitting my elliptical for about 10-20 minutes for the past week.  I hope to make it back up to 30+ minutes, if not more.

I caught up with my TV watching, the CW DC shows are surprisingly keeping me interested.  Black Lightning is good, so far.

I used my instant pot TWICE in one weekend, making some chicken in salsa thing, and pork ribs.  Both turned out pretty good.

More games that I’ll (maybe) eventually play came in.

More porgs were acquired.  And dice.

And it’s almost February.  Yikes.

Tiger Leader

I played the first week of my first game of Tiger Leader.

I think I’ve got most of the game mechanics down.

It’s the 1939 Poland campaign, and my forces annihilated a Polish battalion.

Which is all fine and dandy, but now I have 2 more weeks to defeat way more battalions in order to finish with an acceptable victory point total.  A minimum of 13 VPs gets me a ‘good’ result.

I currently have 2 VPs.  Because I sent all my forces against one stinking battalion in the first week of this 3-week campaign.

I’ll be spreading my forces thin during the last two weeks of this campaign.

I also forgot to add 5 to the move rolls for the Polish.

We learn by doing.

Prepare for Ground Assault

Solitaire wargames update!

I picked up Tiger Leader a while back, in a ding-and-dent sale at Game Kastle.  I never got around to playing it due to other games that occupied my time.

After playing a couple more of DVG’s ‘Leader’ games, I decided to pick up Sherman Leader, and this one came with an upgrade kit for Tiger Leader.

And after punching the counters and sorting the cards, both are ready to go.

I don’t know which one to try first.

Do I invade Poland or defend the Philippines, both of which are campaigns in their respective games.

Or recreate the North Africa campaign?

Though I did pick this up last year (and haven’t played) as well:

Decisions, decisions…

Dismal result, I chalk it up to learning the game.  Though I did manage to sink the Yamato.

Corsair Leader is going to Kickstarter this week, so that may stay on the list a bit longer.

And with Sherman Leader arriving tomorrow, this list is still as long as it has been since November.

Actually, it’s longer, with Gloomhaven, Dinosaur Island, and a couple of Legendary deck building games (Firefly and Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

I think I’ll be playing some sports games in the near future.  A year ago I meant to replay the 2010 World Series, which I didn’t.

Corsair Leader

Last year I bought the print-and-play version of this game.  I printed it, but never got around to actually cutting out the parts to play it.

Next week, Dan Verssen Games is starting a new Kickstarter for a printed version of the game, updated and improved from the print-and-play version.

This may be one of the few Kickstarters that I do this year, since I’ve cut back considerably on my KS pledging.

Friday Off

Took the day to catch up on some stuff.

Ran around doing errands, grocery shopping, found a solitaire wargame at 80% off retail, went to Star Wars Day/Night at AT&T Park.  We actually stayed for the fireworks show.

And now I’m tired and need to go to bed.

Prepare for Battle

Okay, so, the counters have been punched and cards sorted for both B-17 and Alexander games.

Awaiting the large box for Warfighter WWII, should arrive this week.

Re-reading the rules for X-Wing Miniatures for Games night this Saturday.

Reading the rules for Bataan!, Shadow War: Armageddon and a couple of other games.

Deciding to play the next series of games in either the 1917 or 1967 baseball replays.

Picking up Injustice 2 after work today.

Games overload in full effect!
