Sketchy Redux

Tonight I picked up a cheap sketchbook from Michael’s.

I’m not sure what I’m going to do with this, I used to draw in my pre high school days, buy lost interest after taking art class in freshman year.

First doodle/sketch:

Should I be using something other than a mechanical pencil?

If anything I’ll be making my own coloring book!

I was never good at drawing humans.  Or animals.  Maybe I’ll work on that.

Critiques are welcome.

Be aware that I already know that I suck, so there’s that.

Counters

From most of the posts on BoardGameGeek.com regarding Federation and Empire, having a second copy of the game is a good source of ship counters, which you’ll need plenty of, apparently.

There’s also a module for Vassel, for online play, so that’s a play option, too.

It’s just too bad that the two empires/races (Gorn/Romulan) that I most want to play are on opposing sides.  Though that might make for a good starting point for learning the game.

Crazy

That’s one word to describe me right now.

I was browsing BoardGameGeek.com, and came across some of the old Amarillo Design Bureau that we used to play, like Starfire, Star Fleet Battles and Federation and Empire.

For some reason I started reading more and more about the last one on that list, Federation and Empire, which we never got to play, back in the day or more recently when we played a couple of games of Federation Commander.

But my interest in tabletop wargames perked my interest in this grand scale Star Fleet Universe game, so I pulled out my set from 2000, and compared it to the specs for the 2010 set.

Basically, I would need to get an updated rulebook and 3 countersheets from ADB, which included a $14(!) shipping charge.

But checking eBay, I found a ‘ding n dent’ copy for about $3 more than just the parts, so I went and bought it.

The game should be arriving next week.  I’m gonna solo play this, if at all possible.

Barry Bonds hits career home run #756.

This is my photo that I took of the moment, sitting in the upper deck with Glenn.

As I said the night this happened, Glenn and I have been present for a lot of Barry’s milestones:

  • First grand slam as a Giant
  • Career HR #500
  • Season home runs #71 & #72, but we were not sitting together
  • Career HR #600
  • Career stolen base #500, even though we had left the park, we were across McCovey Cove
  • I *think* we were present for career home run #700…

Sure doesn’t feel like 10 years ago.

Close up original laptop

Place faulty fan in second laptop
