Chase 2016
Even with my favorite driver retired, I still have a tiny bit of interest in NASCAR. Especially since my ‘retired’ driver drove in a few races this year.
With Tony Stewart retiring, and the possibility of Dale Jr. stepping away (though he may be cleared in December), I really am out of drivers who I root for.
My pick for the championship?
Jimmie Johnson.
As much as I actually rooted against him over the years, I figure if anyone should match Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty’s record, why not a Hendrick Motorsports driver?
And I would love to see Chase Elliott get the #24 in victory lane.
Big Game
Technically, I don’t have a dog in this fight. Never have, as I’m not an alumni of either school.
It’s been argued that I should root for Cal, because it’s part of a public university system, like SFSU/CSU, versus the private university that is Stanford. But I’ve never embraced that aspect.
I’ve been to more Cal Bears games (2?) than Stanford Cardinal games (1).
Stanford was the first college that I remember wanting to attend, all because it had the same school colors as the high school that I ended up attending.
Stanford is where John Elway went to school. I saw him in that one lone football game that I went to, vs. Ohio State. The game is available on YouTube.
And no offense to Gamma Gamma chapter, but I always felt more comfortable with Zeta chapter whenever I attended Alpha Phi Omega events at either school.
I’ve always liked the Leland Stanford Junior University Marching Band over the Cal Band.
So, like I have for as long as I can remember, today I root for Stanford.
All right now.

Bigger Fleet?
Last month I had ordered a few miniature space ships during a sale at Ravenstar Studios.
The owner emailed me this week to tell me that the order shipped, and due to the delay, he ‘added’ some stuff to my order.
I was expecting 7 ships, I ended up with 10.
I ordered some additional flight stands from another vendor.
I still don’t know what I’m naming this fleet, or the individual ships.
However, I did come up with names for the original fleet of ships that I bought last year.
I’ll post an update soon with all of this information. Right now I’m just trying to keep up with my self-imposed ‘post a day’ streak.
Changes
The Value of Hard Copy
If there was one thing that I’m learning from shutting down my previous blogs, it’s that there needs to be a backup, possibly printed, copy of anything that I’ve posted, especially regarding gaming and the like.
Case in point: remember those spaceship miniatures that I had picked up and painted and named ‘Task Force Guardian’? Aside from the fact that I made them part of the Philippine Space Navy, I have no record anywhere about the names of those ships.
Which simply means that I’ll end up renaming them, hopefully with the original names or something close, unless I decide on some other governing body for this fleet. Unlikely, though. I liked the names that I picked, and will probably remember them once I look them up again.
Comm officer, send friendship message to unknown fleet: Mabuhay!
Guardian
In May of 2004, when I first logged into City of Heroes, I picked the server at the top of the list: Guardian.
It was my characters’ primary home for the time the game was online, and I still have many friends who I keep in contact from that server, and others from the game’s other servers.
Monday night on Supergirl, a new hero burst on the scene, based on a hero from DC’s Golden Age: The Guardian.
The character appeared on and off over the years, with other characters taking on the mantle of Guardian, including the Golden Guardian (Jim Harper’s clone) and Manhattan Guardian (Jake Jordan).
It was a thrill to see James Olsen don the newly created armor of Guardian. It’s a thrill to see any comic book character in live action form, but this one is special, because it’s like the personification of my home server in CoH, come to life.
I just wish City of Heroes was still around so I could recreate this look in-game.
