Accomplishments

This is the first Saturday since the Crisis on Earth-Prime began where I feel that I actually accomplished stuff.

  • I cut my own hair.
  • I cleared out and recycled a lot of materials that had been sitting in my closet for about 30 years.
  • I reorganized and stored a bunch of board games sitting around the living room.
  • I organized my Battle Mechs into lances and printed up record sheets for them.
  • I made more Porto’s stuff in the air fryer.
  • I found a much more adorable Baby Yoda plush that the one waiting for me at the office.

And somewhere in between all this I watched The Andromeda Strain.

Overall I think this has been a rough time for everyone.  Like everyone I seem to have good days and bad days.  But I think I’ve learned how to mitigate the days.

And I saw something that was quoted by a couple of folks today:

You are not working from home. You are at home, in a crisis, trying to work.

Which is correct for me for 4 days out of the week.  That fifth day in the office is working at work in a crisis.  Which surprisingly is relaxing.  It’s as close to ‘normal’ that I think I’ll ever see in the near future, despite the lack of coworkers and traffic and places to eat for lunch.

Hang in there, everyone.  We’re in this together, for as long as it takes.

Randomness

I don’t recall if I ever read “Call of the Wild”.  And if I did, I can’t recall most of the plot.

At the moment, I’m about as enthusiastic about the announcement of the new Star Trek film as I was about the announcement of the first J.J. Abrams Star Trek film.

I blame Star Trek Beyond and Discovery.  Maybe Into Darkness as well.

Project: Blueberry Pie was a semi success.  The pie was okay, just more watery/runny than I was expecting.

The little voice in your head is wise.  Listen to it.

Come ON, you Spurs! #mourinho #really

The Saga ends in a month.  I’m ready and not ready for it to end.

Star Wars will live on.

Buh.

Cancellations

This morning I cancelled my preorders for Jedi: Fallen Order, Cyberpunk 2077, and the Sega Genesis retro console.

I just can’t play these games anymore.

The ones I currently own have gotten so little playtime that they may as well be shrink wrapped.

Granted, my arthritis has been less painful in the last couple of days, but it’s still there.

Getting older sucks.

One Year Later

We lost Dad a year ago today.

This morning I went to the 7:00 am Mass at our church, along with one of my aunts, one of my nieces, and my sisters.  His name was mentioned along with the offerings.

Afterwards I had to go get a measles shot.

I was thinking of going to the movies this morning/afternoon but as I browsed the Cinemark site for tickets, I decided to just go on Mother’s Day, as I usually do.

After my shot I spent some time at Barnes & Noble, before heading out to visit my parents at the cemetery.

I was going to get lunch at a Fil Am restaurant, but I drove by I saw a long line outside, so I went home and ordered a bacon cheeseburger pizza and fries.

I fired up Vudu and browsed some movies, still not sure what I want to watch, if anything.  I guess I’m not in much of a movie mood today.

That’s me and Dad at the last Giants game that he attended, back in 2015.

Miss you and love you, Dad.  Sorry for the above picture where you’re eating a chicken sandwich.

Ch-ch-changes

My urologist wants me to go on a low sodium diet.

Okay.  I’ll go one better and just adjust my food intake in general.

I’ve started by cutting out fast food.

I’ve gone back to portion control, but not the point-counting from Weight Watchers, or WW as they now like to be called.

I’m going back to eating salads for lunch at least 3 times a week.

Cutting out donuts.

Cutting down on rice (again).

Back to a small amount of cottage cheese for breakfast, with perhaps a waffle.  And smaller amounts of my usual cereal and milk.

Bananas are back.

I’m still eating pizza, just less of it.

Controlled snacking (i.e. none or the actual recommended serving size, like 3 Oreos or 5 tortilla chips).

We’ll see how this goes for the next few months.

Hey, most of this has worked before.

Ramblings

I finally watched Crazy Rich Asians.  Good movie.

Clean up continues around the house.  More trips to Goodwill are planned in the future.

The 1967 San Francisco Giants replay is finally finished.  I’m moving on to the 1939 New York Giants replay and continuing the 1917 MLB replay.

February is right around the corner, meaning my birthday is coming up.  This year it falls on a Saturday, and will be our monthly Games Night.

TNT has started showing Rogue One almost every other day.

I’ve been feeling crappy over the last few days, so much so that I’ve skipped my daily elliptical for a couple of days.

I forgot to get a haircut this past weekend.

I really do fear commitment.

DST and Stuff

We go through this every GDMF year, yet for some reason, even though we ‘gain’ an hour of sleep, I always struggle for consciousness on the Monday after the end of Daylight Savings Time.

My co-worker dropped off an NFL Gameday Magazine that another co-worker picked up from the last Broncos-Raiders game, with Case Keenum on the cover.

I may not be able to say it in person, but thank you, Michael Q.

I’m still trying to figure out what to watch during my elliptical sessions in the morning, once I finish off The Expanse Season 3.  I’m narrowing it down to the new Jack Ryan series or maybe a rewatch of Babylon 5.

In related news, I’m almost finished with last season’s DC Legends of Tomorrow.  It’s the one DC CW show that does not irritate me, which is sad.  I may give Black Lightning a shot.

If you haven’t done so yet, don’t forget to VOTE tomorrow.  Please.

It feels strange that for the first time in 3 years, I didn’t have to buy Star Wars movie tickets for me and my friends and family.

Meanwhile, SW Resistance has yet to really get interesting.

Going back to The Expanse, I don’t know which faction or side (Earth, Mars, Belters, OPA) I’d want to be on, truth be told.  They’re all fucked up in one way or another.

Post-Stone Post

Friday afternoon.

I still didn’t feel 100% this morning, so I stayed home.

I managed to shower at my usual time.  The new scale still says I’ve lost about 8 pounds since the stone appeared.  Surprisingly I can see and feel a difference in my face and my clothes.

I made breakfast, eggs, which I hadn’t had in about a week.  Most of this week was 3am-4am wake up calls to urinate and rehydrate and falling back to sleep until about 7am-8am.  Though I did manage to have oatmeal on Wednesday.

I decided to do what I meant to do last weekend, and went out to get a haircut.  On reflection this should have been done Thursday afternoon, since I was in the area, dropping off the stone to my doctor’s office.

On the way home I stopped by Best Buy, since there was an email from after 11pm last night, telling me that Spider-Man for PS4 was available.  I was asleep at the time.

Once home I popped in the Spider-Man disk, and marveled (heh) at the speed which the game was downloading, minutes instead of HOURS.

I began to watch Iron Fist season 2, which seems better than I was expecting it to be.  I then jumped back to the PS4 and entered the download code for the pre-order bonus stuff, including Peter’s Infinity War suit.

I then started to play Spider-Man.  It’s fun, but I only got [redacted] before I stopped, though I wasn’t feeling anything wrong with my hands.  The PS4 controller just seems more comfortable in my hands than the XBox controller.  We’ll see if this changes as I try to play the game further.

I went back to Iron Fist.  The first episode was good, and I’m currently in the second.  I don’t think I’m going to binge this over the weekend, since there’s other stuff I need to do.

I made the congratulatory frozen pizza that I bought earlier this week, to be eaten post-stone.

I think I’m going to finish this IF episode and either take a nap or do some miniatures painting.

And that elliptical looks like it’s been waiting for me to get back on it.

Stones, Conclusion

Sometime Thursday morning, I believe the stone either made it’s way to the end of the ureter or into the bladder itself.

Oddly, it didn’t appear when I peed a couple of times during the day.

Finally, after taking a #2, as I was about to flush, I saw a dark spot in the bowl (above the water line) about where my wee wee would be pointing, and discovered the stone.

4mm, as the doctor told me it was.

I washed it off and put it in a sample jar that the nurse had given to me as I was discharged from the ER on Saturday night.

I then drove it to my primary doctor’s office and dropped it off to on of her associates.

I’m glad that this one is over, and I hope it’s even longer between stones.

Thanks again to those who expressed their concerns.
