Rings of Power

Looks like I stopped watching this one in the middle of Season 1, because I didn’t want to watch two high fantasy shows at the same time, the other being House of the Dragon.

I was also annoyed that EACH episode was well over an hour long, at least 70 minutes runtime.

However, I got on a Lord of the Rings kick a couple of weeks ago, after watching reaction videos of the Extended Editions.

I may try watching the rest of Season 1 and start on Season 2.

My renewed interest in tabletop fantasy RPGs (the new D&D Player’s Handbook is available next week, I’ll have it Monday) is certainly rekindling interest as well.

On to Rings of Power, Season 1, Episode 5!

Threads

When I was 14, I first saw the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark, and it left the biggest impact on my life.

I’d find myself watching it whenever it came on TV, and sometimes I’d switch to my own copy on tape or disc if the commercials started to annoy me.

It was one of the films that my Dad would stop to watch as well.

Other films in that category are The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly (or at least the final confrontation scene) and High Noon.

I noticed that Dad seemed to have the same admiration for High Noon that I had for Raiders.

After Dad passed away, I figured out that High Noon had come out when *HE* was 14.

So I’m left wondering if this movie had the same impact on him at that age, as Raiders did on me.

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, man.

To Be Continued?

So Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 3 is setting up a new DCAU?

Which shouldn’t be a surprise, I suppose.

There was plenty for a long time DC fan like me to like.

PLENTY.

There was at least one jaw dropping cameo.

Overall I think it was a pretty good retelling, pulling stuff from previous DCAU projects as a basis for the key story points, which I should have guessed, to be honest.

R.I.P. to all the destroyed Earths, especially Earth-508 and Earth-12.

Looking forward to whatever comes next, in addition to whatever Lucasfilm Animation is supposedly working on.

The Fall Guy

I don’t think I’ve smiled so much during a movie is a long time.

It was just so fun to watch.

And I found myself singing along to most of the soundtrack.

There was a brief moment that brought me WAY back to my childhood, a sound, and that’s all I’ll say.

Stay for the credits scene.  That’s all I’ll say about that.  I may have been the only person in the theatre who clapped.

Highly recommended.  Go see it!

Unfrosted

Well, that was fun.

Silly, but fun.

It’s about cereal companies, of course I was gonna watch it.

The cast was great, the story was silly, and a couple of cameos were unexpected and funny.

I actually had a bowl of cereal after watching the movie.

It was entertaining.

Recommended.

The Bad Batch Finale – Spoilers Abound

I hate endings of stuff I enjoy watching.

Monarch, Ted Lasso, even recently, Shogun.

But when it’s something Star Wars related, like Ahsoka or Rebels, it hurts when it ends.

The Bad Batch was no exception.

For me, Omega grew as a character this past season.  I was less annoyed with her as I was in previous seasons.  Heck, I was happy to see where her journey seems to be headed, with that final scene.

I’m still upset that Tech is (still) dead, but relieved that he wasn’t revealed to be one of Hemlock’s shadow operatives.

Speaking of Hemlock, I didn’t know until I checked the cast credits that Hemlock was voiced by the guy (Jimmi Simpson) who played Logan Pierce in a couple of episodes of Person of Interest.

I was genuinely sad to see the end of Nala Se, but glad it caused the demise of Rampart and Hemlock’s database.

It was a nice touch to see Tarkin divert Project Necromancer’s funding to Project Stardust.

I’m also kicking myself for not remembering that (Mount) Tantiss was originally from Heir to the Empire.  It never occured to me to look that up when they first mentioned/showed the planet.

Overall, I thought it was good finale with a satisfying ending.  Clone Force 99 is still around at the time of the Rebellion, and that’s good enough for me.

Based On A True Story

I went in to this movie not knowing what true story this was based on, and I’m glad I did.

Based on the trailer, I just wanted to see Cavill and Ritchson in a period piece where they were killing Nazis.

Which we got.  Jack Reacher, Nazi Killer.

But when a certain character introduced himself VERY early in the movie, I kinda started to piece together what this was based on and who one of the main characters was going to be, or rather, the inspiration for another character in a similar genre.

This is definitely going into my list of go-to films when I need something playing in the background while doing other things.

Recommended, though not necessarily a must-see in a theatre.

Four Weeks Later

–  I’ve gotten somewhat into a routine on weekends, foregoing my usual Target run, and simply staying home and unwinding and doing laundry.

–  I dropped off a good number of books to a local bookstore in the mall, and finally got around to visiting the library that I live behind and getting a library card.

–  I’m beginning to dump stuff that I brought to the apartment from the house, finding that I grabbed some stuff that I really have no use for or haven’t used in years.

–  I need to go out walking more.

–  I also need to eat better.  I lost about 10 pounds from the stress of moving, but have gained back a few of those pounds.

The New Empire

This is a fun movie.  Definitely a popcorn flick, and nothing like Godzilla Minus One.

The Kong scenes were great, and what little *koff koff* we saw of Godzilla was awesome.

There were more kaiju in this movie than the trailer would lead you to believe.

The bad guy was pretty cool, and TBH I would have loved to see a cut of this film without the humans and no dialogue, just interaction between all the monsters.

My boys were fighting together by the end of the film, and that made me very happy.

Highly recommended if you’re a fan of Godzilla, Kong, the Legendary Monsterverse, or even that Monarch series on Apple TV+

Go see it!

Day two

What, you thought I was gonna chronicle everyday that I’m living in an apartment?

The only major thing to report at this point is that a tech came by to try to install broadband internet but for some reason my phone lines(!) are screwed up and they couldn’t hook me up.

So now I’m currently running my phone as a wifi hotspot.  Which really isn’t good enough to watch TV, but good enough for web browsing.

So it looks like I’m going to get AT&T fiber (shudder) which I decided to get instead of Xfinity.

Because of scheduling I won’t get hooked up until Monday morning.  Ack.

In other news, I brought some of my sports games over and intend to resume play soon.

Also, the shower water pressure kinda sucks.
