The 50s

November 17, 1967: premiere date of the Star Trek episode ‘Journey to Babel’.

While transporting dignitaries to an important peace conference the Enterprise is pursued by a mysterious vessel and an assassin is discovered among the passengers.

This one is my favorite Spock-centric episode.

We meet his parents, Sarek of Vulcan and Amanda Grayson of Earth.

We also meet the Andorians and Tellarites  for the first time.

And it’s the first reference to the Pirates of Orion.

The one scene in this episode that gets me is when Amanda tries to convince Spock to assist Dr. McCoy with a blood transfusion to save his dying father.

When you were five years old and came home stiff-lipped, anguished, because the other boys tormented you saying that you weren’t really Vulcan. I watched you, knowing that inside that the human part of you was crying and I cried, too. There must be some part of me in you, some part that I still can reach. If being Vulcan is more important to you, then you’ll stand there speaking rules and regulations from Starfleet and Vulcan philosophy, and let your father die. And I’ll hate you for the rest of my life.

My own Mom was protective of me as well.

Look, up in the sky…

I loved it.

Sure, it wasn’t perfect.

It was entertaining. It was fun. It was a live action episode of Super Friends.

And that’s all that I wanted.

I really didn’t expect to see it on Thursday night, but after my cousin sent me a text asking if I had seen it yet, and after watching the final battle from Batman v Superman:Dawn of Justice on cable TV, I said “screw it”, bought a ticket online, and dashed off to the movie theatre.

And I still plan to see it Friday morning.

SUPERMAN IS BACK.

Restrained giddiness is the best way to describe how I felt when he showed up at a key moment.

Booyah.

Amazingly, most of the audience stayed for BOTH credits scenes.

They were AWESOME.

The scenes, not the audience.

Justice League

When I was 6 years old, Super Friends premiered on Saturday morning cartoons.

Ever since then I’ve been waiting for the movie that premieres on Friday.

Or Thursday, technically.

Anyways, I’m trying to stay away from reviews and such, even though I personally liked both Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Midweek Mutterings

I feel… 80% better after this Election Day than I did a year ago.

Why are vanilla-flavored Tootsie Rolls a ‘limited edition’?

My dream Marvel film would be a team up with Korg, Groot, and Luis.

While I enjoy watching basketball now, I really wish my Broncos or the 49ers were doing better in football.

Or maybe baseball should just start already.

November 17th is gonna be a busy day.

Sunday Blatherings

Dunkin’ Donut run in the morning.  I have yet to invoke my AARP card ‘free donut with large coffee’ thing.

Started watching the Broncos-Eagles game, but decided to go out and run errands instead.

Didn’t pick up anything from Barnes & Noble.

Picked up some grey paint from Gator Games.

Didn’t pick up anything from Toys R Us.

Didn’t pick up anything from Tanforan Shopping Center.

I stopped by McDonalds because I wanted a milkshake.  I ordered a Mighty Kids meal, and when I asked for a chocolate shake, the cashier said that they were out of shakes.  What?

I stopped by Best Buy to support my niece and her Girl Scout troop, who were selling chocolate and nuts in front of the store.  I went inside to find an ATM, and ended up picking up Call of Duty WWII.

I went home and used my new paint to finally start painting up my Militarum Tempestus Scions again.  I also watched the end of the 49ers game.

And now I’m watching Marvel films on TV.

Thor Ragnarok

This was another great Marvel film.  Not sure if it cracks my top 3 Marvel films list, though, or even my top 10 superhero films list.

There were a couple of cameos that I didn’t expect, and a few… demises that made me sad.

Folks who are growing tired of the superhero genre need to realize that all of the Marvel movies are chapters in a much larger story, which has been building since 2008’s Iron Man.

It’s the second best Thor film for sure, far surpassing The Dark World.

I don’t think there was a weak character in the film, even some of the third tier characters were great.  In fact, this film introduced one of my new favorite MCU characters, Korg.

Here he is in POP! Vinyl form:

I hope he appears in Infinity War.

Go see this film!

Review Soon

Thor Ragnarok viewing in about an hour.

Review shortly after, depending on what I do afterwards.

Whoa

Seriously, it’s November?

AND Daylight Savings Time ends this weekend?

Damn.

I need to remind myself to keep blogging here every day until the end of the year, so there’s an entry every calendar day in 2017.

If the Astros win tonight, I’ll be happy for them.  If not, oh well.

Duck the Fodgers.

2 days until Thor Ragnarok.

16 days until Justice League.

I’m excited about both.
