So, about that trailer.
Here’s a combo of my train of thought as I first watched the trailer along with commentary after repeated viewings.
Opening shot: Fortress of Solitude? Crashing through the ice to enter? NO HE’S HURT WTF!
Seeing Superman that injured always gets me.
Oh, hi Clark.
Music riff starts: Is this… a rock version of Williams’ theme? Whoa.
I still gotta watch The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
Farm. Cows. Pa Kent. Cool. Hope he doesn’t die in this one.
He’s whistling. For his dog, right?
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG
KRYPTO OMG IT’S KRYPTO HE’S LICKING HIS FACE LIKE HE WANTS TO PLAY
This is when my eyes started leaking, when Superman said, “Home. Take me home.”
And then the shot that gets me every time I watch this trailer (lost count). Saving the little girl from those orange canisters.
Lex! He looks like a comic book Lex.
LuthorCorp instead of LexCorp. Hmph.
Why is Superman in a box?
And the other shot that got me: the little brown kid raising a Superman flag and saying his name, which brought me back to me, at that age, and believing that Superman was real.
Uh oh. Superman haters. OH LIKE THAT CAN IS GONNA AFFECT HIM, PAL!
That is a shot of Superman feeling the weight of the world on his shoulders.
As much as I wish he was Hal, I’m glad Fillion is in this as Guy. I wonder if we’ll hear him say the oath? Probably not.
Hawkgirl looks perfect.
So this is the baby kaiju that Gunn had mentioned back in October. THAT’S A BABY?!?!
Does Lois know Clark is Superman in this one?
That looks like a Fortress robot, or maybe even Kelex?
Didn’t realize Wrinkles was Metamorpho. Some thought it was Brainiac.
Lex looks evil and angry in that shot. Have a Snickers?
Imma totally lose it over Krypto in this movie, aren’t I? The bestest good boy.
That black clad figure is supposed to be Ultraman from Earth-3, right?
Dev, shouldn’t you be on Mars?
Are those LuthorBots?
Lois *hugs* Superman, so maybe she doesn’t know?
July 11th: KRYPTO: THE MOVIE featuring Kal-El.
I’m more optimistic about this movie than I was a week ago, and I was already hyped up already.
I mentioned elsewhere that while James Gunn has a stellar track record when it comes to comic book movie content, I still ding him for the very poor Adam Warlock that he gave us in Guardians Vol. 3.
So even if Guy Gardner turns out to be this movie’s Warlock, there’s still enough here (OMG KRYPTO) that will compensate for that, much like how the rest of GotGv3 overshadowed Warlock.
As for what’s next, I will be very surprised if we don’t get a Super Bowl trailer for this movie. Though maybe a month and a half would be too soon for another.
So which movie will I see more times in the theatre in 2025, this or The Fantastic Four (which should also have a Super Bowl trailer)?
