Action Hero

Today is the 80th anniversary of the release of Action Comics #1, which of course is the first ever appearance of Superman.

There are accolades galore around the web, saying more about him than I could, but I will say this:

Thank you, Superman, and all his creators, artists, writers, actors over the years, who have inspired me to be the best person that I can be, then, now, and always.  I have always looked, up in the sky.

Make Mine Marvel!

20 movies in 10 years.

That’s how many Marvel Studios movies there will be at the end of 2018.

In that same amount of time, Star Wars had 3 films, Superman had 4 films, Star Trek had 5, James Bond had 7, and Harry Potter had 8.

The biggest difference between those franchises and Marvel’s movies? I’ve enjoyed every single Marvel film, though some were better/worse than the others. I can’t say that I had the same enjoyment for the other movies in other series.

Games Day 04.14.2018

Three games played:

Gloomhaven, a dungeon crawl co-op game.  This is the 4th time we’ve attempted the first scenario, and this time we succeeded!

Han Solo Card Game, an adaptation of the in-universe game Sabacc; it even comes with a pair of dice similar to the ones hanging in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon

Dice Throne, which came down to the Paladin (Glenn) vs. the Barbarian (Dave).  The Pyromancer (Nelson) and Moon Elf (me) were both knocked out of the game earlier.

Solo Friday

I made a quick trip to Target this morning, hoping to find the Funko Pop! 10″ Porg.  Nope.

Instead, I got sucked into the hype for Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Behold!

The Funkos I did manage to find…

Han and Chewie

Hey, how they get in here?

Moments

There was a brief moment, shortly after I took this picture, as I sat in my seat, alone, at the ball park, with an eerie almost silence around me, when I felt something.

Joy.

Bliss.

Happiness.

More so than I’d felt in quite a long time.

I almost started to cry.

And then we all stood for the National Anthem.

MoviePass: The End?

We’ll see.

On Wednesday I saw that they had charged me for another month, even though I had cancelled my account last month.  I sent them a note via their ‘contact us’ link on their site through the phone app.

A while later there was a canned reply in my email explaining how to cancel my account.  Arrgh.

Today I saw that they had charged me a SECOND time, so I left another note via their chat option on their app.

I also checked their Facebook account, and found a not-toll free number for their customer service line.

I called, and immediately I was speaking to a real live person.  I explained that I had been charged twice and had cancelled my account in March.

After about 18 minutes of being on hold, and without and hold music, the person came back on the line three times, twice to say that they were working on my refund, and a final time to tell me that the refund had been processed, and that my account had been cancelled.

I guess we’ll find out how true that is next month.

I have nothing against MoviePass, I just find that I get more out of Cinemark’s Movie Club.  I can’t see a movie every day, but 20% off concessions is a good perk.

Ready Player One

I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

It’s been a while since I read the book (which I loved) but having been raised in the 1980s, this was a joy to watch.

Can’t say much more without spoiling.
