Place order, apply discount coupon, item is now cheaper that it was at Amazon. Item cancelled at Amazon.
Doctor Who Christmas Specials blu-rays (up to Last Christmas) with TARDIS bluetooth speaker. Should arrive next Thursday.
I picked up Joseph a little after 9:00am. We got to the convention around 9:30am. A quick trip through will call for our wristbands, a ride up the escalators and we were ready to go.
At 10:00am the doors opened, and we were allowed to go downstairs.
A while back, when they first announced that Peter Capaldi was leaving Doctor Who, and speculation began on his successor (i.e. the 13th Doctor), there was the usual talk of an actress taking over the role.
Talk like that has gone on for as far back as I could remember, even before I watched the series.
When Tom Baker was leaving the series, and the possibility of a woman taking over the role, Starlog Magazine got blasted for writing an article tiled ‘Nurse Who?’ implying that a woman can only be a nurse.
Sadly I’d recently seen the same comments, and worse, from people on Twitter.
Anyways, one of the first women who I thought of for the role was Jodie Whittaker, since she had worked with incoming showrunner Chris Chibnall on Broadchurch.
I put that thought aside, until this weekend, when the frontrunners for the role were Kris Marshall, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Tilda Swinton… and Jodie Whittaker.
So I jokingly said on Facebook that I’d be okay with Jodie Whittaker as the 13th Doctor, since she’d fought aliens before, in Attack the Block.
I got up this morning to watch the announcement after the Wimbledon Men’s Final, and was surprised to see this:
For the second straight time, my suggestion for the Doctor’s replacement was been picked. I said that Peter Capaldi would make a great Doctor, days before the official announcement.

Took a long drive around the Bay Area today, running errands from Gator Games to Fry’s Electronics to Game Kastle Fremont, and finally to Nelson’s place in El Cerrito for our Games Night, this time on International Tabletop Day.
*whew*
I lost track of time at Game Kastle, and along with a traffic delay on 880N, I arrived a little later than I intended to, about 20 minutes after our scheduled start time.
Games were played, food was eaten, and I actually won in a game that I had never in the past.

I’m behind on a couple of shows for the first time in a while. Arrow and tonight’s Doctor Who, I’m probably going to catch them on Sunday.

I’m hearing the siren’s call of some of my sports games again, but not enough to set one up. That may change, though.
Sometimes I feel overwhelmed by my chosen hobbies.

And that’s just what I touched this weekend.
I also spent a few days following the livestream from Star Wars Celebration Orlando, got a haircut, went to a baseball game, watched the first episode of the new season of Doctor Who, attended a screening of Raiders of the Lost Ark with a live orchestra, Easter Brunch with family, and still feel that I didn’t get everything done that I wanted to this weekend.
For example, I didn’t get to play a game of Warfighter or Phantom Leader. Or start watching a couple of shows on Netflix/Amazon Video. Or read comics. Or read in general.
Ah well.
I’m posting this trailer just because. You folks who haven’t started watching this really should start, the last season begins this fall.
I was hoping that he’d play the Doctor for at least as long as Tom Baker. But he’ll have done the requisite 3 series/seasons that David Tennant and Matt Smith had both done, though Tennant technically did a ‘4th’ season of specials.
I’m saddened, truth be told, that Capaldi is leaving. Depending on how his final series goes, I think he’ll be my second favorite Doctor, after Baker and slightly ahead of, if not just tied with, Christopher Eccleston.
