Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

That was a whole lotta fun.

I have to admit that I’ve not read a lot of Miles Morales as Spider-Man stuff.  I just haven’t made the time to do so.

But this was a really good movie, as good as any super-hero film that’s been released in recent memory.

I was floored by the post-credits scene, and loved the mid-credits scene.

In ranking the Spider-Man films, I would place it 3rd, after Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man 2.

Ditko

Spider-Man was the second comic book super hero that I liked as a kid, after Superman.  My first Spider-Man comic had a cover by John Romita and interior art by Ross Andru.

I later got a copy of The Origins of Marvel Comics, and that’s where I first saw Amazing Fantasy #15, the debut of Spider-Man, by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.

It was a different look from what I was used to seeing, to be honest.

When I was 11, my parents bought me a set of paperback books that reprinted the early days of Marvel Comics, with the first 6 issues of Fantastic Four and The Incredible Hulk, and the first 12 issues of The Amazing Spider-Man.

And that’s when I really fell in love with Ditko’s work.

I think he’s why Doctor Octopus is my favorite Spider-Man villain.

Ditko also created other favorites of mine, including Ted Kord’s Blue Beetle and Doctor Strange.

The one character that I had no idea that he had a hand in creating?

Squirrel Girl!

All I really knew about the man was that he was a recluse, often compared to J.D. Salinger.

Coincidentally, The Catcher in the Rye is my favorite book that I read in high school.

Today news came out that Ditko had died late last month.

This loss hurts a lot because of his contributions to comics and to my personal development in my tastes in comic book fandom.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Ditko.  Thank you for all you did.

Ant Man and the Wasp

Good, but the first one was better.

A lot of trailer dialogue was only in the trailer.

And the mid credits scene was great.

Infinity War

To me, it was epic and it lived up to the hype.

My only complaint was a distinct lack of a helicarrier in this one.

I can’t believe I ate a large popcorn by myself.

Thanos is still my favorite over Darkseid.

I was way off on my ‘death guesses’.

We got a poster and a coin as we were leaving, too.

Peter Dinklage is awesome.

“I am Steve Rogers.”

Make Mine Marvel!

20 movies in 10 years.

That’s how many Marvel Studios movies there will be at the end of 2018.

In that same amount of time, Star Wars had 3 films, Superman had 4 films, Star Trek had 5, James Bond had 7, and Harry Potter had 8.

The biggest difference between those franchises and Marvel’s movies? I’ve enjoyed every single Marvel film, though some were better/worse than the others. I can’t say that I had the same enjoyment for the other movies in other series.

Weekend Recap

Finished reading “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck”.

Picked up the Infinity Gauntlet (prop).

Sorted/organized Massive Darkness and Rising Sun.

Got a couple of Infinity War Pop! figures from my sister.

Watched baseball on TV.

Continued the 1967 San Francisco Giants season replay.

Did my taxes.

Watched the Oscars.

Finished reading “The War of Jokes and Riddles”.

Wakanda Forever!

Very good movie.

It’s not my new favorite.  In fact, it’s hard to say which, if any, is my favorite Marvel movie.  But this one is definitely a contender for that title.

The cast was great.  Aside from T’Challa, my favorite characters are Okoye and M’Baku.  The entire cast was awesome, truth be told, but there were moments with those two in particular that I liked the most.

I’d say about 95% of a packed audience stayed for the VERY predictable end of credits scene.  Almost everyone watched the mid-credits scene.

Midweek Mutterings

I feel… 80% better after this Election Day than I did a year ago.

Why are vanilla-flavored Tootsie Rolls a ‘limited edition’?

My dream Marvel film would be a team up with Korg, Groot, and Luis.

While I enjoy watching basketball now, I really wish my Broncos or the 49ers were doing better in football.

Or maybe baseball should just start already.

November 17th is gonna be a busy day.

Thor Ragnarok

This was another great Marvel film.  Not sure if it cracks my top 3 Marvel films list, though, or even my top 10 superhero films list.

There were a couple of cameos that I didn’t expect, and a few… demises that made me sad.

Folks who are growing tired of the superhero genre need to realize that all of the Marvel movies are chapters in a much larger story, which has been building since 2008’s Iron Man.

It’s the second best Thor film for sure, far surpassing The Dark World.

I don’t think there was a weak character in the film, even some of the third tier characters were great.  In fact, this film introduced one of my new favorite MCU characters, Korg.

Here he is in POP! Vinyl form:

I hope he appears in Infinity War.
