Surprise!

Another game that’s been sitting on my shelf for a couple of years, I finally sat down with and learned how to play Grid Iron Wars.

OH. MY. GOD.

It’s probably one of the simplest sports games I’ve ever played, mainly because it relies so heavily on the APBA die-roll convention (2 d6, 11-66 result range)

I played 1/2 a game between the 1997 Denver Broncos and the 1997 San Francisco 49ers, and it flowed pretty smoothly, with about as many chart look-ups as other football games that I’ve played.

I liked how the game felt, play by play, with an almost quick play feel to it.

I’ll try to finish up the current game tomorrow, and then start a college game, which is one reason I wanted to learn how to play this one.

Though I do have Yet Another Game™ coming in later this week.

Game Winning Drive Football: ’78 Steelers vs. ’16 Patriots

A few years back I bought the Super Bowl edition for Game Winning Drive Football by Downey Games.

GWD Football is a quick-play football game, with each roll of the dice representing a ‘drive’ by each team.  It is VERY abstract but plays satisfactorily when you don’t have time for one of the bigger football games.

I got the Super Bowl LI teams in email yesterday, and decided to play the 2016 Patriots against the 1978 Steelers instead of a Montana-led 49ers team.

Result?

1 2 3 4 OT Final
78 Steelers 0 0 0 0 0
16 Patriots 14 7 7 0 28

Hmph.  Perhaps I should pit them against a Montana-led 49ers team.

SBLI

I started a Second Season football preplay of Super Bowl LI right before the game started.

I had finished the first quarter as the game ended.

And then I got the updated Super Bowl teams file from Downey Games for their Game Winning Drive Football game.

I may try to finish the Second Season one this week, while playing the GWD Football one as well.
