2022 World Cup Pre-Play: Semifinals

Less than a week away from the World Cup tournament starting, and I finally got around to playing my semifinal matches.

Final score from Al Bayt Stadium:

Alas, England couldn’t get anything going, and two quick second half goals allow the Netherlands to advance to the Finals.

Final score from Lusail Iconic Stadium:

A hard fought match between the two squads as an injury time goal sends Portugal into the Finals.

Hat trick for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Blood Bowl Team Focus: The Spartans

A year or so ago I found these guys online and picked them up for Blood Bowl.  My intent was to use them as a Norse team.

This year Games Workshop came out with new rules and models for the actual Norse team, which makes this group of miniatures semi-obsolete.

What I didn’t realize when I bought this particular set is that it can be used for 3 different teams: Norse, Bretonnians, and Humans.

The Werewolves are meant to be used with a Norse team.

The Ogre (Big guy) is meant to be used with a Human team.

The Bretonnians don’t use either of those, so it would be all Humans.  Though technically the Bretonnians appear to have been replaced with the Imperial Nobility Team, so perhaps I can use them as one of those teams.

Can’t use werewolves on an Imperial Nobility Team, though.  Ah well.  Though I think I can use the Ogre.

I may have them play as Imperial Nobility vs the Lizardmen this weekend.

Blood Bowl: The Return

Actually it was the latest release of Blitz Bowl that catapulted me back into the Blood Bowl World, revisiting the teams and acquiring new ones, some through 3D printing.

The 6 teams at the bottom are not full Blood Bowl teams, consisting of 6-7 miniatures for Sevens/Blitz Bowl.

The names in bold are newly created teams, the bottom two representing the ones that came with the new Blitz Bowl boxed set.  Never thought I’d go back to having Elven or Amazon teams, but here we are.

Again, I don’t expect to start a league or anything like that, just indulging in yet another source of miniatures painting , which I enjoy more than playing the games, truth be told.

1969-70: Seals Season, Game 1

It begins!

The one thing I discovered when playing out this first game is that overtime didn’t exist until the 1983-84 season.  Prior to that, tied games after 3 periods ended in a tie.

Like this one.

Final from Civic Arena:

I’m keeping things simple, stat wise, with just the score and who scored the goals.

Next up: the Chicago Black Hawks.

1967: NHL

As if I didn’t have enough sports replays on my plate, I decided to expand the 1966-67 Toronto Maple Leafs replay into a full NHL season replay, which is about 210 games long.

My reacquaintance with PLAAY’s Hockey Blast has me wanting to play more hockey, but we’ll see if I can fit it in to my non-existent play schedule.

Perhaps I need to create one of those die-roll decider tables again.

I managed to play game one of the 1966-67 NHL season, but I may replay the game  because I wasn’t happy with the way I was chronicling the game itself.

So though Detroit beat Boston 4-1 in that first game, I’m wiping the slate clean and will start the season over.
