1948: Giants Replay, Game 1

Final from the Polo Grounds:

A pitcher’s duel, with Pee Wee Reese driving in the only runs in the game for the Dodgers.

This is only the second Payoff Pitch Baseball game that I played using the Fast Action Cards instead of dice.  Oddly enough, the first game I played was this exact same game, but scored by hand in a pre-printed score book that was part of the rewards for the Kickstarter campaign for the 1948 season cards.  Supposedly there was an issue with that score book, so I put off continuing this replay until I got a replacement, which never came.

I decided to restart this replay since I was only one game in.

For only the fourth time in my replay, the real life race winner won.

Your race winner, David Pearson, driving the Rod Osterland #2 in place of injured driver Dale Earnhardt.

Darrell Waltrip maintains the points lead over Richard Petty.

Soccer Blast

I just played a game for the first time in a while.

I made some mistakes, I think, no, I’m sure, so what was supposed to be the first game of the 2017-18 Tottenham Hotspur season replay will just be a “get reacquainted with the game” matchup.

Spurs won 1-0 over Newcastle United.

Replay of the replayed match will occur later.

Trading Card Game

A couple of years back PLAAY Games came out with a “Quick-Rate” supplement for History Maker Baseball which allowed you to create teams using ordinary baseball cards.  It came with a few packs of 1987 Topps wax packs to help start out your teams.

I created a Topps 1987 team and then bought a couple of packs of current baseball cards and created a 2018 team.

I played 1/2 a game and put the game away.

Almost 2 years later, I opened the History Maker Baseball game box and found the unfinished Trading Card Game.

I finally finished it.  There’s no box score since I hand scored this one.

Grand National Drivers List

The updated driver list for the Grand National Pioneers Series.

Eleven drivers added from Pete Adams’ ‘Local Yokels’ freebie set.

That’s 60+ drivers vying for 43 starting grid spots, even though I know that starting grids were much bigger back then.

No changes to the race schedule.

The first and last races are held on fictional race tracks, which I’ve located in Hanford, Washington and Fresno, California.

Pepsi Racing League: Race #18

The 2016 Pepsi Cup Racing Series comes to an end.

PLAAY doesn’t appear to be releasing another Truck Series car set, so this is it.  No more truck racing.

I do believe that some of these drivers appear in later PLAAY SCRAM series.  I may transfer Louttit, Gayle and Saguisag to one of these other series, someday.  Perhaps the 2018 SCRAM-B series?

Next up: the Grand National Pioneers Series begins!

GT Series

Hair-brained scheme #76:

  • 3 racing series, GT6, GT5, GT4
  • the car colors will designate a team of drivers over the 3 series
  • the 6 drivers in each series will compete in 8 races
  • points awarded 1st to 6th place as follows: 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8
  • the top 2 drivers from each series then competes in an 8-race Super GT series
  • winner gets bragging rights over the other drivers

The game comes with balance of performance dashboard cards for the GT6 and GT5 cars so they will be on even footing with the GT4 cars.

I’ll come up with a series sponsor, team names/sponsors, car sponsors, etc.  Hopefully I’ll get this series kicked of sooner rather than later.

Pepsi Racing League: Race #17

The Cortana 300 from the Western Frontier Raceway.

Race results and current standings:

Nick Holo clinches the points lead and the Pepsi Cup Championship due to poor finishes by Phil Clooney  and Ricky Sellars, his two closest competitors going into this race.

Next: the season finale, the Pepsi 400 from the Southern Super Speedway.

The championship has been decided, so this race is more for pride and bragging rights than anything else.
