Getting the itch to play a game from one of my football replays. But which one?
1990 Jim Harbaugh?
1967 Broncos?
1958 NFL?
Or maybe I should try a full game of Techno Bowl?
Stay tuned!
The Table Top Sports Games of Chris Saguisag
I watched this video, skimmed the rules, and tried to play a set of downs this morning.
It plays VERY much like Blood Bowl, with a few rules changed or added. And it’s a lot of fun, even solo. The cards make solo play feasible.
This was the field of play when I setup the game last night:
And this is how it looked this morning, when I had to leave for work:
On the left side, Bighorns #6 was knocked down by Reapers #41 in the endzone, but before he did, he managed to complete a pass to Bighorns #7, on the right side of the field, who is being chased down by Reapers #77.
OMAHA!
I think I should just orient all the players so the numbers face me, like a video game.
My initial impression of this game is that I like it.
I’ll finish off this playthrough when I get home from work.
Stay tuned!
And now for something, completely different…
This is from a Kickstarter campaign that I backed a little while ago. It’s a table top version of arcade football.
Hey, if you can simulate real football on a table top, why not simulate a simulation? Or something.
I have never, ever been a Raider Fan. Becoming a Broncos fan in high school made that an impossibility.
I’ve rooted for some of their players, like Bo Jackson and Jerry Rice and Ronnie Lott.
I like their theme song from NFL Films. I think they’re the only team to have a theme song from NFL Films.
But I’ve had a dislike, bordering on hatred, for the Raiders for as long as I can remember.
That said, I am genuinely sad that they are moving to Las Vegas. Screw the fans. The business of businesses is to make money, and that’s exactly why they’re being moved.
I remember how upset folks were around here when they first moved to Los Angeles. The simple fact that they were a Los Angeles team probably added to my lifelong animosity toward the team.
When they moved back, not everyone up here in NorCal welcomed them back. Most of the folks I knew did, but there were a handful who had a feeling that this would happen again.
And it did.
This is why people have trust issues.
All joking aside, I feel bad for the Oakland Raiders’ fans, especially the ones who now see their team leave home for a second time. The San Francisco Giants almost moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, after 1992, but didn’t, but I remember how gut wrenching that felt at the end of that season.
And with the Golden State Warriors moving to San Francisco in a couple of years, Oakland will be left with the A’s, unless they end up moving as well.
I need to find a way to play these football games in a shorter time period.
I’m only halfway through the Super Bowl LI replay, which I started around the coin toss of the actual game on Sunday.
Halftime score:
NE 10
ATL 21
I guess I can just put this aside for now, and play something else, like the new golf game.
Stay tuned!
A few years back I bought the Super Bowl edition for Game Winning Drive Football by Downey Games.
GWD Football is a quick-play football game, with each roll of the dice representing a ‘drive’ by each team. It is VERY abstract but plays satisfactorily when you don’t have time for one of the bigger football games.
I got the Super Bowl LI teams in email yesterday, and decided to play the 2016 Patriots against the 1978 Steelers instead of a Montana-led 49ers team.
Result?
1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | OT | Final | |
78 Steelers | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
16 Patriots | 14 | 7 | 7 | 0 | 28 |
Hmph. Perhaps I should pit them against a Montana-led 49ers team.

I started a Second Season football preplay of Super Bowl LI right before the game started.
I had finished the first quarter as the game ended.
And then I got the updated Super Bowl teams file from Downey Games for their Game Winning Drive Football game.
I may try to finish the Second Season one this week, while playing the GWD Football one as well.
Stay tuned!
I toyed with the idea of setting up a goal of finishing 50% of each of my current projects by the middle of the year.
But then I realized that this could turn this more into a chore than a hobby.
So I’ll make it a not-so-strict goal, with the baseball projects taking priority.
And I still plan to start the 1917 full season replay sometime soon.
Stay tuned!
