Return to SSX

Second Season Express still takes a while to play a game.

Not as long as a regular Second Season game, but still longer than other Express games from PLAAY.

Still, I may try to power through and finally finish the 1967 Denver Broncos season replay this week.

The plan is to finish some of these season replays that have been sitting idle under the full PLAAY games using the Express version, specifically this 1967 Broncos replay, perhaps the 1966-67 NHL replay, and maybe the 1974 John D’Acquisto season replay.

I may start a 1974 fictional Lacrosse season replay once Lacrosse Blast Express arrives.

Stay tuned!

Chomp

One of the freebies from this year’s PLAAY Holiday Sale was the 1995-96 NHL Season for Hockey Blast.

I happily downloaded and opened it up on my PC and smiled when I saw the names on the San Jose Sharks squad from that year.

I then went to print it out and again felt happy to see the team roster.

And then I went to hockey-reference.com to review that season.

20-55-7 record.  Dead last in the Pacific Division.  Yikes.

I remember going to more than a few games that season, and the seasons before and after that.

I remember the faces but not the names of some of the regulars who sat around us.

I remember the loudest CLANG off the crossbar when Eric Lindros fired a shot on goal.  Not sure if it was that season, but it was certainly during that time.

And that Sharks team was one of my favorite sports teams during that period as well.

With the new Hockey Blast Express I expect to roll some games from that season, maybe not a full season replay, and not just Sharks games.

The Flyers won their division that season, only to be knocked out of the playoffs by the eventual Eastern Conference Champs, the Florida Panthers.

If I play out a Flyers-Sharks Cup final, I’m afraid San Jose is gonna get swept by the Flyers.

But we’ll see.

Lacrosse Blast

Seven years later, I’m finally going to dive into this game.

It’s mostly because I decided to pick up Lacrosse Blast Express and playmat from PLAAY Games’ holiday sale, along with the PDFs of a couple of seasons for the game.

Funny that I originally picked up Lacrosse Blast during their 2016 Holiday sale.

2012: Stock Car Racing America, Race 23

I fully intend to finish this season by the end of the year, if not sooner.  2 races a week will help me get there.

August 12th, 2012: the Signal Health Care 400 @ New England Colonial Speedway.

Race results:

Stu Yurich wins back-to-back races and maintains the points lead over Wayne Montana.

Current standings:

Next: the Big Sky 400 @ Rocky Mountain Raceway.

Stay tuned!

Tennis!

For my first match up, mostly to relearn how to play this game, I played a set between these two.

Set tied at 6,  Arthur Ashe won the tiebreaker 7-5.

I think I scored everything correctly.

I’m gonna try a full match soon with the pairings that my friend Tony gave me.

Eventually I’ll try a tournament or two with the fictional sets.

Stay tuned!

Service!

First off, kudos once again to PLAAY Games for a quick delivery (ordered Wednesday, arrived Monday) of their newly released printed edition of Let’s PLAAY Tennis.

Great service!

I snagged a print-and play copy during their 2022 holiday sale, and fumbled my way through a couple of sets to learn now to play, but once I heard that they were going to release a full blown printed version I set aside the print and play and waited for this release.

Tennis and golf are both games I grew up watching on TV.

After Mom passed away I stopped watching regularly, maybe stopping on a match while channel surfing if someone I recognized was playing.  Unfortunately, it got to a point where the Williams sisters were the only ones I recognized.

Same happened with golf after Dad passed away, to a lesser degree, but that’s another story.

I had been playing table top golf on and off for about 10 years, after my brother sent me a copy of ASG Golf, and then getting my own copies of APBA Golf and PLAAY’s History Maker Golf.

For tennis, I had a different print-and-play tennis game about 8 years ago (Diggin’ Deep Tennis), but never managed to get it out on my tabletop to play.

Flash forward to this morning, and the arrival of this new tennis game, and I’m already excited about playing it.

My friend Tony has requested a few match ups, and I had one of my own that I planned to play.

Michael Chang was a guy I remember rooting for back in college, though Arthur Ashe I barely remember seeing.

But flipping through the rest of the All-Time Great player cards a while ago just made me go though a rather nostalgic trip, remembering seeing a lot of those names on TV from grade school through college.

Really looking forward to playing this game soon.

2012: Stock Car Racing America, Race 21

July 29th, 2012: the Colonial 500 @ Eastern Seaboard Speedway.

Race results:

Vic Holder wins his 3rd race of the season.

Stu Yurich and Tom Rossi claw their way from the back of the grid to finishing 6th and 3rd respectively.

Current standings:

The 6th place finish keeps Yurich on top of the points standings.

Next: the Snooze-Inn 350 @ Sun King Speedway.

1995: Stock Car Racing America

Just released from PLAAY Games, this throwback fictional season featured the debut of Wayne Montana, who is retiring in their latest (2023) SCRAM season.

He’s the backup driver for Greg Doty in the #66 Megadodo Publications Dodge.

In 1996, he’ll be hired as the full time driver for the #99 LexCorp Chevy, vacated by the retiring Bobby Parris.

1995 season schedule:

I may run the first race this weekend.
