Computer Sims

Hey, Chris, why don’t you play any sports sims on your computer?

Because the few times that I did, all I would do would simulate a season and be done in a few minutes.  There’s no fun in that.

And it would take about the same amount of time to play a dice and cards game or match as it would on the computer.

My only use of a computer during a game replay is to keep score, and occasionally look up pinch hitters/relief pitchers used in a given baseball game that I’m replaying.

And truth be told, lately I’m enjoying the heck out of my soccer games and scoring them by hand.

I did have Strat-O-Matic on my old PC, but never installed it on my newer PC.  I maybe played 1-2 full games using the 2010 season card set.

I also had Strategic Baseball Simulator on some of my PCs in the past, but again I played a handful of games or simulated an entire season.

And of course I had APBA on my PC for the longest time, and simulated individual games, just to hear the prerecorded play by play voices that were added.

I’ve looked at the PC games from Inside Sports and Replay, but I figure I have plenty of their table top products to keep me busy for a long while.

Bottom line is that I get the most satisfaction from rolling dice and flipping cards when replaying games.

Reflections

I started playing table top games regularly when I decided to get reacquainted with Strat-O-Matic basic baseball.

I though that would be it.  The dice tower/tray that I built (PepsiCo Park) was inspired by other player’s Strat-O-Matic-themed creations.

But then, through my brother, I discovered PLAAY Games’ Red White & Blue Racing, which led to History Maker Baseball, which further led to about half a dozen other baseball games that I’ve tried, and almost a dozen more that I haven’t, along with various football, basketball, hockey, soccer, golf, wrestling, and other sports.

Quite a library of games I’ve built up over the years, and who knows when/if I’ll get around to all of them.

But that’s my plan.

Break?

Looks like it’s time to take an extended break from Sports games.  I felt this way last year after I had finished the 1967 Giants replay

I’m not quite burnt out, I just feel more inclined to play other non-sports games more frequently since last year.

I’m not shutting down completely, in fact I wouldn’t be surprised if I do a race or a fight sometime this week.  Or not.

It’s the longer replays that I may be shying away from in the immediate future.

Goals

2 months into the year, and I finally settled on a couple of goals that I’d like to accomplish this year:

  1. Complete the 1967 San Francisco Giants season replay
  2. Complete the 1979 Winston Cup season replay

For the first one, I’ll have to play about 9 games a month or about 2 games a week in order to finish by end of the year.

For the second one, I’ll have to run about 2 races a month in order to finish by the end of the year.

Here’s hoping I can achieve at least one of these goals.

History Maker Golf: Foursome

I have now played twice as many games with History Maker Golf than I have with any other golf game in my collection:  two.

This time I grabbed 4 golfers who I had played with in a round in ASG Golf, from the ‘2000s Stars’ set that comes with the game, and had them play at Spyglass Hill at Pebble Beach.

I’ll probably try a tournament sometime this week.

Break

I had a game all set up on my table.

BallScore was ready to go on my computer.

I played a couple of innings.  And then stopped.

And then I deleted the results of those two innings.

And then I shut down BallScore and put away the game I had set up.

I think I still need a break from table top sports games.  I’m just not feeling it at the moment, though I’m not going to totally abandon them.

Or maybe I just need to not play baseball.  This has happened before.

I’ll regroup and see what happens and how I feel in the next week or so.

Stay tuned!
