2018-19 EFL Teams

I asked one of my British co-workers (Liverpool fan) which team I should replay in Dice United for the Championship/English Football League.

I told him that I was narrowing it down to Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest.

He then told me the story of how he had grown up in a town called Long Eaton, which was equidistant between Nottingham and another place called Derby.

Both towns are where his parents came from, and his grandfather played goal for Derby, before World War II.

My co-worker actually rooted for Nottingham Forest, though he has friends who root for them and for Derby.

Having heard all of this, I decided that I would try to replay both Derby County and Nottingham Forest, if not the entire 2018-19 EFL.

MGD Strikes Again

As if I didn’t have enough to play with, this caught my eye today.

It has team cards instead of individual player cards, but appears to have more depth than the other soccer games that I’ve played with just team cards.

The game comes with the 4 top teams from English Premier League’s 2011-2012 season:  Man City, Man U, Arsenal, Spurs.  I ordered the supplemental  set to complete that season.

They offer last season’s English Championship League season set, which I ordered along with the game.

This should be fun.  I liked playing the freebie Quick Fixture game that was offered before this.

New Year, New In Progress Chart

Sure, let’s add the 1947 49ers replay, and put the 1967 Warriors replay back on the schedule.

2018-19: EPL, Game 1

Despite my preference for non-quick play soccer games, I decided to give Ultra Quick Soccer a try.

I think I found my go-to system to play the season’s games for teams that I’m not playing in Net Results Soccer, at least for the 2018-19 season (i.e. everyone except Cardiff City).

It takes a few minutes to setup and play a game, with at least 2 die rolls to determine a game score, though some games may require 6 or more.

And there’s an option to determine who actually scored.

I can probably knock off a team’s season schedule in an hour or so.

11 Aug 2018:

Newcastle United 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Goals: NEW: Perez 22′ TOT: Longstaff (OG) 9′, Eriksen 30′

Not much in the way of stats for this game, like all other quick play games.  Which is the point.

Only 341 games to go.

EPL 2018-19

A future project:

Cardiff City competed in the Premier League during the 2018-19 season.  I rooted for them since that’s where they film Doctor Who.  Sadly, they were relegated back to the English Champions League after finishing 28th in the EPL table.

I will replay their season in an attempt to prevent them from being relegated.

I also had no idea that there is a Filipino player on this team, until my sister asked about a player named Neil Ethridge.

He’s their goalie, and I never even considered looking him up last season because the name threw me off.  He also plays for the Azkals, the Philippine National Men’s Soccer team.

I do have plans to insert a fictional player to possibly help Cardiff City along in my replay.  He is known only as “Pepsiman”.

4+ Hours

That’s how long it took to cut and sort the Net Results Soccer Champions League card set, and I’m probably only going to use half of the teams.

I’m beginning to think that this and Soccer Blast may be my two primary soccer games that I play.

No knock on either The Beautiful Game or Final Score, I just feel individual player cards are better than a full team card, which both TBG and FS use.

And I felt game play in NR and SB was more engaging, to be honest.

I may need to play a few more matches in each game to determine which replay I really want to do.

Soccer

I’ve been trying to get myself to start a soccer replay for at least the last 5-6 years, but I could never decide which league I should play, or which team within a league.

And then I saw that Net Results Soccer offers the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League, which included THREE teams (Spurs, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich) that I root for in different leagues (EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga).

So I’m going to play the Round of 16 to the Finals, or Knockout Phase, which by my count is 29 matches.

I just have to figure out the rules about aggregate scores and stuff like that.
